Warner Bros. Discovery to Split Into Two Companies
WBD owns AEW TV Partners TNT, TBS, and HBO Max
Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), the parent company of AEW's broadcast partners TBS, TNT, and streaming home HBO Max, is undergoing a significant restructuring into two separate entities.
Announced on June 9th, the split will divide the company into one division focused on studio productions and streaming services, which will remain under the leadership of current WBD CEO David Zaslav.
The second division will encompass the company's global television networks and will be headed by CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels.
According to Zaslav, the restructuring aims to provide both divisions with greater focus and strategic flexibility to compete effectively in the rapidly changing media landscape.
While the announcement doesn't directly address AEW's future, it is significant to note that AEW programming currently airs on WBD-owned TBS and TNT, as well as being streamed on HBO Max.
Furthermore, previously announced plans to add new AEW archive content to HBO Max are still proceeding, with the content slated to be added beginning on June 20th.
The implications of this split on the future of AEW programming on WBD networks and streaming services are still unknown.
